Sedo, the domain name marketplace, is having an auction of 80 domain names that ends on June 23 at approximately 12PM EST. Many of the domain names are dot com domains with only three characters that are currently bid for less than 20,000 British Pounds, and some even less than 10,000.
For example, gud.com is at 18,500, and vlx.com and oak.com are both at 18,000. Oaz.com is at 6,300 GBP and cjv.com is at 6,100 euros.
But what is really interesting is the selection of names that are available. Here are a few that may be useful to a startup, especially the first one on the list, even though it is a bit long:
In case you aren't familiar with Sedo, it is one of the largest auctioneers and sellers of domain names and domain parking services. Sedo helped broker sex.com for $13,000,000 in 2010, which is considered the highest price ever paid for a domain name, according to the Guinness World Records. Sed was also involved in the transaction of vodka.com for $3,000,000, and pizza.com for $2,600,000.
You can find the list of domains for sale at the Sedo website.
